John Boyle is the only serving teacher running for INTO General Secretary. He has been an INTO activist for over 30 years.

John Boyle was born in the Donegal Gaeltacht in 1964. He is the eldest in a family of nine, four of whom are teachers. He now lives in Templeogue, Dublin with his wife Carmel.

Standing up for Teachers

John Boyle has been an INTO activist for over 30 years. He was a staff representative Branch and District Cathaoirleach, and has served on the Central Executive Committee since 2004. John became INTO Vice-President at Easter 2016 and was elected President in April 2017. His eventful term of office ended at the 150th INTO Congress in Killarney on 4th April 2018.

 

Teaching Career

As principal teacher of one of Ireland’s largest schools, John has led a staff of 65 in the delivery of excellent early years education, and has spearheaded the school community’s campaign for a new school building which opened in 2014.

Scoil Mhuire Ballyboden, 1986-2000
As teacher and Home-School Liaison Co-ordinator in this DEIS 1 school, John played a significant part in the improvement of Special Education provision, ICT facilities, school environment and sports grounds.

Community

  • As a teenager active at local level, was involved in the establishment of Donegal Airport, Cruit Island Golf Club and Ionad Pobail Mhullachdubh.
  • Founding Chairperson of Youth Enrichment Whitechurch (YEW) – a Dept. of Justice intervention scheme.
